SUMMIT, NJ - A reusable shopping bag, developed and produced through a partnership between Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) and the Summit Green Team, will be available for purchase at the Summit Farmers Market starting May 20.
Bright red and eco-friendly, the commemorative tote bags feature the tomato illustration from the Farmers Market poster, are 13 inches wide by 10 inches deep by 15 inches tall, and have reinforced straps. Plastic inserts in the bottom of the bag make them both sturdy and tre chic, ideal for loading up fresh Farmers Market purchases.
Priced at $3 each, or $5 for two bags -- cash only -- profits from the project will benefit the Summit Green Team, a group of volunteers who provide support to the City of Summit's Environmental Commission to achieve Sustainable Jersey goals, educate the community about sustainable living, and make the town a healthier, "greener" place to call home.
“Using a reusable bag can save almost 1000 plastic bags," said Melissa Spurr, Green Team founder. "This can prevent plastic bags from accidentally being land-filled or ending up in our waterways, where they break up but never break down. At the end of its life, you can also recycle this reusable bag, and give it a new life.”
