SUMMIT, NJ - Softball Team player Kendall Blomfield and Baseball's Matt Reddy have been honored as Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by TAPinto Summit, for the week ending May 20.
Each week throughout the school athletic year, an athlete or athletes will be honored for distinguishing themselves in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.
Blomfield took the ball in Summit's first state playoff game against West Essex and went the distance, scattering eight hits over seven innings and holding the opposition to a single run. Pitching, according to Head Coach Tim Simo, "her best in the biggest games," the senior also is a force at the plate, hitting at a .308 clip (20-65) with 15 RBI as Summit -- currently with a record of 18-7 -- continues it stellar season.
Reddy threw four shutout innings in relief against as the Maroon and White won at New Providence, 4-2. The victory -- in which the junior also went 3-4 at the dish -- was the his second on the season, a campaign in which he has hit .320 (25-78), drawn 11 walks, smacked three doubles and stolen five bases.
"Matt has been a leader for us in the '3-hole' and at shortstop," said Summit Head Coach Kevin Zaleski.
