SUMMIT, NJ - Summit High School Varsity Head Football Coach Kevin Kostibos has been named the United States Marines Semper Fi New Jersey Coach of The Year.  Kostibos will be honored at the Glazier Football Coaching Clinic at the Whippany Marriott Hotel, February 15 at 8:30 a.m.  He follows Summit's John Liberato, who was honored with the award in 2013.

The award is given by the U.S. Marines Corps, and Glazier Football Clinics, to honor high school football coaches who display faithfulness to the mission of their team, and exemplify the Marine standard of excellence in developing leaders.  It recognizes a high school football coach who lives out the Marine Corps motto: Semper Fidelis ("Always Faithful"), and who models the Marine Corps leadership values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
  1. Honor to live life with integrity, responsibility, honesty, and respect.
  2. Courage displayed in mental, moral and physical strength to do what is right in the face of fear, uncertainty or intimidation.
  3. Commitment in unwavering, selfless dedication to mission accomplishment and personal and professional responsibilities.
The Semper Fi Coach is not necessarily selected for a winning record or championship title, but rather for leaving a legacy of intentional leadership.  The Semper Fi Coach is a "Maker of Leaders."

Kostibos, who had served as an assistant coach under former Summit Varsity Head Coach Liberato, was named Head Coach in 2013 when Liberato made the decision to coach the Freshman Team only.  He inherited a team that had graduated 18 out of 22 starters, and led the Hilltoppers to a 12-0 record and a second-consecutive State Title.

"It is such an honor to bestowed appreciation for service from the men and women who protect our country.  The Marines stand for values such as courage, honor, and loyalty, to name a few.  For them to even consider myself in their category is an honor in itself," said Kostibos.  "I was given a great opportunity by John to be part of a grand tradition here at Summit six years ago, not only on the field, but also being a leader in the classroom.  I'm sure John is as happy for me to receive this award, and keep the tradition in Summit going, as I am to accept it."

Fear of Rising Rates? Remember The Reason You Own Bonds

If the current interest environment has you concerned about your bond portfolio, remember why you are investing in bonds.  The role bonds, or fixed income, play in a portfolio is not solely based on performance.  Bonds are used to offer stability, particularly when stock market volatility is rising. Rate hikes can dampen bond performance, but keep perspective on how rising rates impact ...

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
