Kyle Kirst, Former Summit H.S. Lacrosse Coach, Elected to NJ Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame

SUMMIT, NJ - Kyle Kirst. the long-time Summit High School lacrosse coach who passed away in June of 2015, has been elected to the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Class of 2015.
 
Kirst, who served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Summit High School Boys Varsity, will be inducted in the Hall of Fame January 31, in a ceremony held at Mercer Oaks Country Club in Princeton Junction.
 
Initiated in 1997, The New Jersey Lacrosse Foundation has annually inducted individuals based on outstanding lacrosse achievement and/or contribution. As a chapter of US Lacrosse, The New Jersey Lacrosse Foundation strives for consistency with the national organization. 
 
 
The mission of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame is to "honor men and women, past and present, which by their deeds as players, coaches, officials and/or contributors, and by the example of their lives, personify the great contribution of the sport of lacrosse to our way of life."
 
According to its website, New Jersey Hall of Fame Qualifications are as follows:

Player: Must be from New Jersey. A player is eligible 10 years after graduation from high school graduation.

Coach: Must be from New Jersey with noteworthy accomplishments or coach a New Jersey team. Must have 15 years experience or have retired for 10 years.



Official: New Jersey resident who has obtained prominence, or an official who serves primarily in New Jersey. To be eligible they must have 20 years of experience.

Contributor: A person who has made a significant contribution to a New Jersey Lacrosse Organization, Team or Club. To be eligible they must have 20 years experience in lacrosse.
 
Kirst is joined in the Class of 2015 by Marjorie Adams, George H. Miller III, Kathleen DeBonis, Laura McCarthy, and John Bodnar. Harriet R. Donnelly will receive the Richard Rizk Award,
 
Prior to his coaching role with Summit, Kirst was head lacrosse coach at Hanover Park. His coaching resume also included roles as Hanover Park JV coach, an assistant at West Morris High School, and he began his coaching career in 1993 at Princeton High School.

Kirst was a 1990 graduate of Rutgers University, where he also played goalie for the Scarlet Knights. In addition to his coaching duties at Summit, Kirst taught history at Hanover Park High School.
 
Both loved and respected as a person and a coach, his sudden passing brought tributes from throughout the area, region, and amateur sports communities.
 
Tickets for the event, which begins at 11 a.m., are priced at $75, and are available by visiting uslacrossechapters.org/newjerseysouth.
 
Mercer Oaks Country Club is located at 725 Village Road West in Princeton Junction.
