SUMMIT, NJ - During the regular season, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Team and Cranford played twice, both close games, both won by the Cougars.

The latest installment, the Union County Cup (UCC) Final, was even closer.

Unfortunately for faithful of the Maroon & White, the UCC result mirrored that of the first two encounters, as Cranford's Elliott Goga scored with 1:07 remaining in the game to give the Cougars a 3-2 victory.

Goga's game-winning tally came just over five minutes after senior Dan Hicks, assisted by freshman Greg Moller and sophomore Will Vitton, had scored for the Hilltoppers, trying the game and completing a two-goal Summit comeback.

Cranford jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Spencer Reiber and a power-play market from Ryan Malko.

In the second period, two freshman teamed up to get Summit on the scoreboard and halve the Cougars lead when Moller assisted Luc Radice's goal with 6:42 remaining in the period.

Cranford outshot Summit 38-21 on the day, with Summit's Kyle McLaughlin and Alec Vitton combining for 35 saves, and the Cougars Thomas Harris credited with 19 saves.
