SUMMIT, NJ - Just days ago, three out of four Summit Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) customers were without power. That number has now been trimmed by nearly two-thirds as JCP&L has restored power to 2,555 customers the past two days and aims to return power to 1,102 on August 8.
Summit still has the second-highest number of JCP&L customer outages remaining in Union County, its 2,451 cases narrowly trailing Springfield's 2455. Overall, 26.41 percent of Summit's 9,267 JCP&L customers in Summit are still without power.

Summit Fire Department is advising residents to turn off all heat-producing appliances to eliminate fire hazards when power is restored. This includes ovens, stove stops, irons and small appliances used for hair styling. Turning-off air conditioners, washers and dryers will prevent them from coming on unexpectedly when power comes back on.
The outdoor charging station in the Broad Street east parking lot and the indoor charging station at the Summit Community Center on 100 Morris Ave. will be open on the weekend from 8:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. (outdoor charging station in the Broad Street east lot) and 12 - 9 p.m. Saturday (indoor charging station at the Community Center).
The Summit Transfer Station is adding extra hours and will be open August 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. for residents to dispose of storm debris and household waste, 'DIY style'.
