More than 754 books that were donated to a needy school were collected during the five days of the second annual Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School Book Drive held February 28 to March 4. The books ranged from picture books for babies to beginner readers to young adult books, and the middle schoolers worked together to pack the donated books according to reading level. The books were donated to the Whitney M. Young Jr. School in Jersey City.
“The staff at the Jersey City School were extremely grateful and so excited to pick up the books and deliver them to their students,” said LCJSMS social studies teacher Laurie McCormack, who coordinated the drive. “It was heartwarming to see the students in our school come together for such a worthwhile cause.”
