I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe. I recognize that this is a trying time for our community and our nation, and I am very proud of how Summit has risen to the occasion, with our ongoing efforts at physical distancing while supporting our neighbors and standing up for the rights of all.
Council discussed a number of important issues at the meeting on Tuesday, I hope you were able to join us. Instructions on how to participate can be found on the City’s website.
I would like to highlight two of the topics we covered. First, Council voted on the 2020 Municipal Budget, which was first introduced in March and has been amended to reflect the adjustments made to revenue and appropriations in response to conditions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can view the budget and the City Administrator’s presentation on the amendments to the budget here. The amended municipal tax levy shows an increase of 0.14% (as compared to the introduced tax levy increase of 0.75%). This is a lean budget that preserves the excellent services that Summit residents have come to expect.
Second, Council voted on six resolutions intended to help Summit’s businesses as they begin to reopen. These measures are based upon numerous conversations with business owners and Summit Downtown, Inc. You can find more information about these measures in my Council President’s Preview and this video.
Wishing you all the best,
Marjorie Fox, President Summit Common Council
