One of the most beautiful moments in our community each year is driving through Summit on the evening of December 24th to see homes aglow with luminaries. This glorious sight alone, and the spirit of community that it represents, make Summit a special place to live; and the fact that the funds raised by selling the luminaries brighten the lives of many in need throughout the year makes it even more so.
The Summit Luminary Event is made possible through the boundless energy and dedication of Barbara Romano, the Founder and Director of the Summit Luminary Fund, and the generosity of Lois Schneider, President and CEO of Lois Schneider Realtor in Summit, who underwrites the event. Special thanks are also extended to the area leaders who coordinate the orders and deliveries, and the many volunteers who give their time to fill thousands of bags with sand and candles.
This year, the Summit Luminary Fund was thrilled to raise $48,000, all of which will be given back to charitable organizations within our community. On Monday, January 31st, Lois Schneider and Mia Romano-Brown (daughter of Barbara Romano) presented checks to the following grateful beneficiaries: The Valerie Fund’s Camp Happy Times, the Summit First Aid Squad, Senior Connections, SHIP Summit Helping its People, and The Santa Claus Shop.
