Walter D. Rutzler Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center at the age of 84.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, September 19, from 4-7 p.m., at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, located at 7 Summit Ave, Summit, N.J. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20 in the funeral home at 10 a.m.. (Gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service) Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, N.J.\

Walter was born in Kearny, N.J. He was the son of Frances (nee Lee) and Eugene Rutzler. Walter was a longtime resident of Summit, N.J. prior to moving to Morristown, N.J. He was a veteran of the United States Army and career Firefighter with the City of Summit Fire Department for 35 years until his retirement. Walter enjoyed fishing, playing cards and stopping at his favorite Hotdog stand in Morristown.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Katherine (nee Caruso) Rutzler, their son, Walter Rutzler Jr., (Audrey Adams and her daughter Ruthie Adams), his grandchildren: Walter III, Amanda and Danielle Rutzler. He is also survived by his great-grandson Bryce Rutzler and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffery Patrick Rutzler, three brothers and sister.
