Serving both as a tribute to the memory of Summit Police Detective Matthew Tarentino -- a Somerville resident who was killed in a traffic accident on Route 78 nearly one year ago -- and to honor the men and women of law enforcement, The Immaculate Conception School hosted a “Blue Mass” at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church.

Tarentino had been a longtime parishioner, beginning as an altar boy. He had also attended the grammar school and Immaculata High School.

The Mass was attended by all students and staff in the K-8 grade school, along with with more than 100 members of law enforcement, including Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson. The police sat in the first several rows of pews in front of the altar, with the school band and choir performing several songs during the ceremony.
