As we (fingers crossed) leave behind April showers for May flowers, the mood turns even more upbeat as the dress code gets even more relaxed.

It’s springtime in 'Jersey. Time to take in the fresh air... time for getting together with friends and family... time for celebration. And Summit’s own HAT Tavern wants to continue to be part of this special time of year for Summit’s residents, and those in surrounding towns.

“You know it’s springtime in New Jersey when the tables begin to fill up under the ten on our outdoor patio,” says HAT Tavern General Manager Walter Curtis. “You would think it’s the Jersey Shore the way people flock to the tables comfortably positioned on the quiet space we occupy in the back of the hotel.”

This extension of the historic Grand Summit Hotel has become a destination location for great times and equally great food, and an introduction to the Hotel itself for many people unfamiliar with the area, occupying a location that is just steps from the bustling downtown that have become a business Mecca and which features some of the country’s biggest names in consulting and finance that have taken or built offices in the 'super zip code'.

The Hotel and HAT Tavern sit just outside the downtown proper which creates a feeling of exclusivity from the bigger picture. To give it a pulse that can be felt by the millennial set making the downtown their place of business, the cozy HAT Tavern maintains a stable of acts eager to entertain and appealing to the varying demographics the eatery attracts.

“We are always amazed when someone tells us they never knew this place existed,” says Assistant Manager Maggie McGuire. “The Hunt Club which existed in the HAT space before it, occupied the space since 1929, so there is certainly a footprint in the town that goes back forever.”

As May rolls in, the slate of Epicurean delights and dynamic performers on the schedule will not disappoint:

Join us May 4 for the 'Ultimate Tex-Mex Hot Dogs'... while we are known for our Pat LaFrieda-blend burgers, out hot dogs will knock your socks off.

'Ultimate Caribbean Hot Dogs' make their debut May 11 and 'The Ultimate Jersey Shore Hot Dog' is unveiled May 25.

Join us May 5 for the acoustic sounds of Michael Montemurro, from 7 - 10 p.m.

Steve Jones will carry the vibe create by Michael with his performances May 6 and 17, offering up acoustic covers of class and current folk, rock, and blues - Jones is a songwriter who has performed on and released independent CDs.

Speaking of "knocking your socks off," May 11 sees the return of "Mr. Socks" himself -- Paul Fessock - with his acoustic set sure to delight. Paul runs World of Rock, which is dedicated to turning musical performers in rock stars.

Mother's Day Brunch -- May 14 -- at both The Hat and The Hotel is a not-to-be-missed annual event and among the most popular.

Cliff Doenges / Captain Cloud and The Koz -- an eclectic assortment of acoustic-driven ballads -- in back-to-back performances Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 - 27.

'Spaghetti and Sinatra' May 19 - one of The Hat's most cherished duos who have been entertaining patrons at The Hotel for more than 15 years.

The bar in the HAT Tavern remains the focus of the popular restaurant and, under the leadership of Assistant Manager Maggie McGuire and head bartender Scott Robertson, the nightly drink specials and new additions to the constantly-changing beverage menu will be on full display all spring. We hope to see you soon.

With 149 guest accommodations and over 10,000 square feet of recently-renovated event space, The Grand Summit Hotel -- the shining star in the town of Summit -- remains one of the area’s most prestigious addresses for social and corporate events.

The hotel’s culinary reputation is unmatched in the area and has been extended to the wildly popular HAT Tavern in the hotel’s lower level. The management team built on this success recently with the grand opening of the Arts and Crafts Lobby Bar serving private label coffee and espresso, Ironbound Nitro Brewed Iced Coffee, a selection of hard to find craft beers, and wine.

The Grand Summit Hotel is located at 570 Springfield Avenue in Summit, New Jersey 07901. For more information call the hotel at 908-273-3000 or visit our website at grandsummit.com.

A Royal Pain

I went to a big wedding over the weekend.  It was in England.

I like to think I was invited, but according to the Royal Guards and the Thames Valley Police I was not.  But more about that later.

You see, not too long ago I received an evite addressed to me from H&M@royalwedbot.co.uk.  Curiously, it was in my spam folder with a warning message. For an evite it was pretty ...
