In honor and celebration of Mother’s Day, Mothers & More chapters across the country will be collecting purses, during the month of May, through a program called Power of a Purse. This campaign is designed to raise awareness of mothers’ economic issues through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers and women in need. A purse symbolizes a woman's economic power, something we wish for all women, especially those in need. No matter where you are in the social ladder, there is “power in your purse”: having money of your own to control, to buy things and provide for yourself and your children.
Mothers & More is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (tax ID # 36-3564589) dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy. In Mothers & More, we are committed to creating a place for mothers to feel a part of a larger community of women who are experiencing the challenges that all mothers face, not only in raising children but also in fulfilling their sense of self and self-worth. We believe this begins with a sense of belonging, a space where women feel safe among friends, where they are able to utilize their gifts and celebrate their uniqueness, where they can truly be themselves.
The purses will be given to Dress for Success of Morris County. Dress for Success’ mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Many of the women who are assisted by Dress for Success are also mothers. Donations of clothing, and other personal essentials are made to benefit the women and their families.
Donated purses may be dropped off at the YMCA in Westfield, The Community House in Madison or The Connection in Summit. Business owners wishing to donate purses or personal items (such as wallets, perfume, makeup) are encouraged to contact Mothers and More at e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
We would appreciate support of our efforts.
