SUMMIT, NJ - Formally known as the 'Turkey Bowl', the annual Thanksgiving gridiron classic will now be known as 'The Summit Football Alumni Game'. The latest incarnation of the popular pigskin event will be held on Friday, November 24, beginning at 11 a.m., at Investors Bank Field.
"The Turkey Bowl is special because it celebrates three of the things that make Summit an amazing town... family, friends and football," said Patrick Natale, Class of '88. "It's a great day to get together with fellow alumni and also provides an opportunity to give back to the community by raising money for a good cause.”
This year’s event will be dedicated in memory of Detective Matthew Tarentino. Donations made at the Alumni Game are being raised in support of Detective Tarentino’s family and in support of Hilltopper Hall of Famer Leroy Horn. The alumni game is open to all past, present, and future Hilltoppers including all family members. There will be a touch football game for the alumni, as well as games and activities for all members of the family, including 'Cornhole' and 'Kan Jam'.
“The Summit Football Alumni Game is a great opportunity to get together with past and present Hilltoppers to rejoice on our experiences within the organization while engaging in a diverse field of friendly competition," said Dwaine Dabney, Class of 2009. "To outsiders it may just seem like a holiday football game but in fact it happens to be a great opportunity to lay down the foundation of success to all newcomers and proud Hilltoppers over some football, food, and good vibes! Doesn’t get much better than that.”
A post-game celebration will follow the Turkey Bowl at the Summit Elks Lodge beginning at approximately 2 p.m.
"Summit football made me the man I am today," said Ryan O'Malley, Class of 2010. "Through my collegiate and professional career I always referred back to lessons I learned on Tatlock field. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for the Summit Football Program and the coaches who are now family to me.”
