In most chain-hotels the concept is virtually extinct. In fact, many national brands -- as a practice -- intentionally rotate their senior management and managers from property to property which, while it may have its benefits, it is certainly far from prototypical for customers who have to adjust to new contacts, faces, personalities and styles.

However, and as now must be obvious, The Grand Hotel in Summit is different by design and dynamic. We have told you countless stories of our faithful and valued, long-tenured employees, which we believe is the cornerstone of our business. While the Legendary Lodge itself it uniquely spectacular, it is ultimately just a building. Our people are what brings The Grand Summit Hotel to life for our loyal customers.

To that end, we are proud to announce the promotion 20-year Grand Summit Hotel veteran Jimmy Thornton to the role of Assistant General Manager, where he will work in concert with recently-elevated General Manager Michael Marino.

Cape Town, South Africa-born, Jimmy attended Middlesex University in London where he studied Hotel and Institutional Catering Management.

Jimmy has worked on three continents, including a Five Star, Five Diamond Award-winning resort. His eclectic background also includes him running his own catering company and, for three years, his own restaurant -- The Spring Meadow Inn in Wall Township.

Jimmy met a Jersey Girl, who he made his bride, which is what brought him to New Jersey in the first place, and we are grateful that he found his was to The Grand Summit Hotel, where -- prior to his promotion -- he served as Director of Catering.

He was elected Chairman of the New Jersey Restaurant Association in 2009, and named a "Culinary Star" in 2001 by the New Jersey MS Society.

Jimmy and his wife have two children and he and his family reside in East Brunswick.
