Oncologist to Discuss 'The Skin You're In'

On Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 pm, the Summit Free Public Library will host a free, informative health talk, “The Skin You’re In”.  Franz O. Smith, MD, a surgical oncologist at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J., will speak about skin cancer risk factors, the importance of early detection, and advances in treatment options.

Dr. Smith specializes in surgical oncology with expertise in cutaneous oncology and sarcoma surgery. He embraces the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. He completed his surgical residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. During his residency he did a three year clinical research fellowship in Tumor Immunotherapy and Surgical Oncology in the Surgery Branch at the NCI/NIH, Bethesda, Maryland. Upon graduation from residency he did a two year surgical oncology fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center/University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Smith has published multiple peer reviewed articles, a book chapter and presented at national meetings.
