SUMMIT, NJ - Gedymin Grubba, concert organist from northern Poland, will be performing in Summit, NJ, as part of his 2013 concert tour of the United States.  He will be performing works by Nicolaus Bruhns, J. S. Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude, Alexandre Guilmant, and Jan Janca on the 1971 tracker-action Holtkamp organ at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 587 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.  The public is welcome. A free-will offering will be taken, and a reception to meet the artist will be held afterward.

Born in 1981, Grubba graduated in 2006 from the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk, where he studied organ with Professor Roman Perucki and composition with Prof. Eugeniusz Glowski.  Having launched his public performance career in 1996, Grubba performs about 100 concerts each year around the world.  Some of the cathedrals where he has performed include Dublin, Ireland; Kaliningrad, Russia; Leeds, Great Britain; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC, Wellington, New Zealand; and Sydney, Australia.

Grubba is the most active Polish concert organist, the winner of many organ performance and composition competitions, and the recipient of three grants from the President of Gdansk.  He has recorded a number of CD's, frequently conducts masterclasses, and adjudicates organ competitions. In 2010, he was the main adjudicator at the Organ Music Society of Sydney Young Organists’ competition in Sydney, Australia.

In 1999, at the age of 18, Grubba instituted The International Festival of Organ Music at Pelplin Cathedral, in Pelplin, Poland, and he continues today in the role of Festival Director.  The Festival is a significant cultural event in Poland, bringing together artists and audiences from around the world.  The Festival’s success made possible the reconstruction of the cathedral’s unique 17th Century Baroque organ that was first heard in its restored state in 2003. In 1999, he also initiated in Koronowo, Poland, a series of Chamber Music Evenings, which this year celebrates is 15th anniversary along with the Pelplin Festival.  In addition, he is also chair of the Promotion of Art Gabriel Fauré Foundation in Gdansk, Poland. In 2009, Grubba was awarded the prestigious “Mestwin” award for his cultural efforts, and in 2011, he received a medal for his work on behalf of the city of Pelplin.
