NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Cloudy skies and sprinkles of rain didn’t seem to keep folks away from the annual Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Country Fair, which kicked off May 18 on South Street in New Providence.
For many of the area's children, the OLP Fair is the first recognizable sign that summer vacation is not that far away. The OLP Fair aims to have something for everyone including rides for all ages, a variety of food, a raffle, myriad vendors and a Giant 50/50 with a potential $10,000 prize.
The Knights of Columbus are back, grilling their famous hamburgers and hot dogs. Also on the menu are fried Oreos, funnel cake, zeppoli, snow cones, cotton candy, sausage and peppers and much more. Making its debut this year is a Beer Garden that opens at 6 p.m. each night for the 21 and over crowd.
All the old favorite rides are back; the Gravitron, the Carousel, the Zipper, the Riptide, Himalaya, the Super Slide, the Monkey Maze and the Ferris Wheel, with a new ride -- called Vertigo -- making its OLP County Fair and New Jersey debut.
Vertigo is a high swing thrill ride that swings riders 90 feet above the ground. Event attendees can also win prizes at the games of skill and chance and try their hand at the dunk tank.
The raffle (2 tickets for $5) has many sought-after items this year, including a Weber grill, a Sony Flat screen TV, an Apple watch, an ipad Pro, a Go Pro, A Schwinn Cruiser, a Kindle and a Fitbit HR and much more. Vendors include Scentsy, jewelry, Pampered Chef, homemade candles and many more. There is also a new gifts table and many vendors, all inside the gymnasium.
The OLP Country Fair’s dates and hours are:
- Thursday, May 19, from 6-10 p.m.
- Friday, May 20, from 6-11 p.m.
- Saturday, May 21, from 1-11 p.m.
