SUMMIT, NJ - Overlook Medical Center in Summit is one of three Atlantic Health System hospitals that have earned the highest possible safety rating of "A" by The Leapfrog Group in its spring 2018 hospital safety grades.
Also earning an "A" grade were Morristown Medical Center and Newton Medical Center
Overlook Medical Center’s ‘A’ rating is an increase from last year, while Morristown Medical Center and Newton Medical Center have maintained their top-level "A" scores. The three medical centers join 750 hospitals nationwide, that also received "A" grades.
Reflecting Atlantic Health System’s commitment to system-wide safety, Chilton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center also raised their scores from last year.
“Atlantic Health System is dedicated to building healthier communities and providing our patients with the highest quality health care,” said Amy Perry, senior vice president of Integrated Care Delivery and CEO of Atlantic Health System's Hospital Division. “These leading scores reflect the outstanding care and compassion provided by our team every day.”
Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog hospital safety grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign "A," "B," "C," "D" and "F" grades to more than 2,600 US hospitals, twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. The grade is based on hospitals’ performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harm.
"It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An "A" safety grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
“We congratulate the clinicians, board, management and staff of Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and Newton Medical Center for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”
