SUMMIT, NJ - The fabled pumpkin, which less than a fortnight ago was taking center stage on Halloween, will be back for a tasty encore -- joined by the Sweet Potato -- as the Summit Farmers Market hosts a Pumpkin / Sweet Potato Pie Contest November 12, on the Market's fourth and final 'Sunday Funday' of its 2017 season.  

Amateur bakers are invited to bring their best pumpkin or sweet potato pie to the market by 10:45 a.m. with contest pre-registration suggested and available by visiting survey.constantcontact.com. Walk-ins are also welcome.

All types of pumpkin and sweet potato pies are eligible, and no premade crusts are allowed. Canned pumpkin,however, is permitted. Entrants must bring a copy of their recipe with them to the Market.

The pies will be judged on three criteria: crust, filling, and appearance by a panel of esteemed judges comprised of Summit Mayor Nora Radest, Summit House Executive Chef Martin Kester, and Brownie Points Bakery Owner Bob Conway.  Winners, who will receive 'Fun Money' that can be spent at the Market, and must provide their recipe to be shared in the Summit Farmers Market newsletter.

After the pies are judged, they will be available for the public to sample.
