Summit Fire Department Firefighters Lonn Mullen, Matthew Lemons, Thomas Murray III, Dwight Nichols, and Battalion Chief David Guida -- all 'rocking' pink polo shirts -- along with Deputy Fire Chief Donald Nelson together strike a pose as the SFD joined fire departments across the country wearing pink during the month of October in support of, and to raise awareness for, Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“We have traded normal duty shirts for pink polos,” explains Summit Fire Chief Eric Evers. “Our department has been affected by various types of cancer and we wanted to join the fight to raise awareness about breast cancer detection and treatment this month.”

In addition, according to a study by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), firefighters, on average, have a higher risk of certain types of cancer compared to the general population.
