SUMMIT, NJ – “Silently Screaming,” a journal of poetry and notes on caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, is available for purchase at Lulu.com. Proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit SAGE Eldercare’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center in Summit, NJ. The private, non-profit organization supports the independence, well-being and quality of life of older adults, their families and caregivers and serves more than 6,000 clients in Union, Essex, Morris and Somerset Counties.
The author of the book, Carrie McLeod Howson of West Orange, NJ, grew up in the Arizona desert and graduated from Bennington College. At 62, she turned to poetry as a way to express her feelings about her husband’s Alzheimer’s, and found it to be an avenue to celebrations of life. “Silently Screaming” is a compilation of poetry and notes that Ms. Howson wrote as she was caring for her husband.
“We are very grateful that Ms. Howson has so generously chosen to dedicate the proceeds of this book to SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center,” stated Dawn Knill, Director of Development for SAGE. “Our Spend-A-Day program often has clients who are in various stages of Alzheimer’s and so it is fitting that the monies raised from this book would help others who are caring for loved ones with dementia.”
The book is available for purchase at Lulu.com for $12. If you have questions or if you would like to place an order through SAGE, call Dawn Knill at 908.598.5503 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
