SUMMIT, NJ - One of Summit High School's most successful competitive units, the Hilltopper Speech and Debate Team -- 'silverware' machines in the way they collect hardware for the Kent Place Boulevard campus' trophy cases -- has been busy prepping for another success-laden season by participating in several workshops held during the month of August.
Thirty-five speech and interpretation students attended "The Perfect Performance" workshop led by national consultant, Demond Wilson and his team of four professionals. The students prepared original oratories and interpretation selections for the upcoming competitive season. The workshop concluded with a showcase event.
Other preparations included the debate team recently sponsoring a Novice Debate Camp.
The team's annual 'Forensic Blastoff' will be held August 29 - 31, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Summit High School in room 228. All students interested in competing in debate or speech events are strongly encouraged to attend all or part of this pre-season camp.
Team members will discuss team expectations and practice their events. Students should bring a lunch, and there is no charge for the pre-season camp.
The season officially begins at the Yale Tournament September 15-17.
