I am writing to endorse Richard Sun for Summit Council At-Large.
I have had the pleasure to work with Richard on City committees for over nine years. In 2006, Richard was a founding member of the Summit Recycling Advisory Committee and, even at the age of fifteen, he more than held his own with committee members who were more than fifty years his senior. On the Recycling Committee, Richard contributed his ideas in a thoughtful and respectful way. He helped lead the committee with his thinking and innovative ideas.
Richard has a long record of contributions to Summit. He led a refurbishment of the Washington School Playground in 2008 as part of his Eagle Scout Project and co-founded the Summit Free Market. Richard also helped the city in unglamorous but important ways: he helped to update the solid waste and recycling management plan and was a co-leader on the Sustainable Jersey grant application which ultimately won Summit the highest award for a mid-size city.
In my years of volunteering in Summit, I have crossed paths with few people as innovative and productive as Richard—whatever their age. He has been able to motivate people of all ages and backgrounds to join his campaign and focus on civic events. Richard’s consulting experience, his ability to listen to others and his love for the town in which he grew up make him the best candidate for Council-at-Large.
Please join me to vote for Richard Sun for Council-at-Large on November 3rd.
