SUMMIT, NJ - As the song goes:

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list
And checking it twice;
He's gonna find out
Who's naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

Temporarily eschewing his traditional mode of transportation, the trusty sleigh, Jolly Old Saint Nick will arrive at the intersection of Maple Street and the Summit Village Green on a Summit Fire Department Engine to host the Annual Tree Lighting ceremony on  December 12.

After arriving from the North Pole at 6 p.m., Santa will assist Mayor Ellen Dickson with the lighting of the tree, and then participate in the celebration that includes Christmas caroling, activities for children, and refreshments.  Families are encouraged to bring a camera for pictures with Santa and his elves.

The Village Green will be transformed into a winter wonderland.with ice sculptures and festive holiday music.  Volunteers from local community groups will be organizing crafts for kids, story time, and a sing-a-long.

In the spirit of the holidays, attendees are asked to bring an adult-sized winter hat and gloves / mittens, which will be collected by Bridges Outreach and donated to the homeless.

Hosted by the Summit Area YMCA and Summit Downtown, Inc., participating organizations include: American Red Cross/NJ Crossroads, Police Athletic League, Peapack-Gladstone Bank, Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Summit Fire Department, Summit First Aid Squad, Summit Free Public Library, The Connection, The Junior League of Summit, Visual Arts Center of NJ, Hickory Tree Singers, and World of Rock.
