I was heart broken when I heard that Summit's music store, World of Music, was having a "retirement sale." Summit has had a music store for at least forty years! It's a wonderful store where everyone knows your name and follows your children's musical progress.
The first day of the sale was mobbed. People came from miles away to buy music, instruments and musical supplies. There were musicians and kids with their parents from Morris County, Somerset County, Essex County, Middlesex County and New York City.
The World of Music is crucial to our beautiful downtown Summit. Known as a destination store, the World of Music brings people from all over to Summit. After all, customers will not waste that coveted parking space after they've made their musical purchases. They stay for lunch, shop for shoes and buy that special something in the wonderful stores of downtown Summit.
Many of us who love both the city and music would like to find someone who will continue to run the music store. We are looking for someone who loves music, loves musicians and kids who play music, and loves picturesque downtown Summit as much as we do.
There have been some wonderful and creative ideas to keep the store open, such as opening the store in the evenings for live music or having a space where the talented kids in this town can perform. Just imagine: a musical revue with the talented kids in next year's musical, budding young jazz musicians, battle of the bands, or a chamber music concert of super talented kids.
Please help to pass the word on: let's find a way to save this venerable Summit institution!
