SUMMIT, NJ - Finishing with a record of 15-1, the SJBB 8th Grade Team recently concluded its most successful season in recent years. Led by a strong offense, the talented squad from Summit outscored its opponents 151-46 in its 16 game season.

Complementing the offense was a solid pitching staff that collected 5 shutout performances. The staff delivered two consecutive no-hitters; one on April 22 and the other on April 23. Will Schaffer no-hit Park Middle School from Scotch Plains on April 22 followed by Grant Douglas and Matt Murdock combining to no-hit David Brearley Middle School on April 23.

The last week of the season included a dramatic finish. On May 21, Jack Washburn connected on a bases-loaded, two out, walk-off double to drive in the game-tying and game-winning run to defeat Liberty Middle School of West Orange 6-5.

Coach Welsh could not be more proud of this team, stating, “This special group of young men played with skill, determination, focus, and character. It was a meaningful experience to watch these players respond to challenges and play at a high level throughout the season.”
