SUMMIT, NJ - Just prior to the a weekend that is supposed to begin with and bring its fair share of precipitation, the Summit High School Girls Softball Team's fans got caught up in the reign of Sami Auerbach.

Pitching for the third consecutive day in a row and under the lights, the senior right-hander was again lights out, striking out 15 Union Catholic batters, allowing just two hits, and throwing all seven innings in the Hilltoppers' 1-0 victory over the Vikings on the Upper Turf Field.

This past week alone, Auerbach has worked 21 innings, striking out a total 37 opposing batters, allowing only five hits while walking just six, and going a perfect 3-0.

The Maroon and White's Taylor Thompson went 1-3 and scored the game's only run, which came unearned in the first inning. Thompson was bunted into scoring position by Alisha McDonnell, who also had a stolen base. Thompson came home on a Vikings' throwing error.

Thompson's hit was Summit's only one of the game against Union Catholic's Justina Benvenuto, but it was enough to get the win and improve the Hilltoppers' season record to 15-5.

Auerbach, who seems to always get the big out -- usually by virtue of 'the K' -- when she and her team need it, did the same against the Vikings, She now has 174 strikeouts on the season and 445 for her Summit career.

Summit next takes on Rahway May 15 at Memorial Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
