Sounds of A Summer Night 2014 – A Celebration of International Music Reeves-Reed Arboretum will host a summer series of concerts in the garden with a decidedly international theme this year. Featured will be performances from the award-winning World Music Saxophone Ensemble, Asylum Quartet; the Maleku Folklore Costa Rica Dance Company; Massive Reggae Band; and master Shakuhachi artist, James Nyoraku Schlefer. June 25 Asylum Quartet Influenced by Spanish, Ethiopian, klezmer and Indian traditions, as well as commission pieces by Iranian and Turkish composers, the Asylum Quartet recently garnered the distinction of being the first saxophone quartet to ever receive the Grand Prize and Gold Medal in the International Music Ensemble Competition. Together with the ancient Japanese koto, this evening’s event will also feature a special garden walk highlighting Arboretum plants native to Asia and Japan. (pic) All Sounds of A Summer Night concerts are on Wednesday evenings, and begin with the Arboretum grounds opening up at 6 pm for concert goers to picnic. The performances are from 7 to 8 pm. You are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The concerts are free to all members of Reeves-Reed Arboretum. There is a $10 admission at the door. Sounds of A Summer Night is sponsored, in part, thanks to support from Nick & Tracy McKee, and the Grand Summit Hotel.
