SUMMIT, NJ - A closer look at a list of things that The Carpenters, Jackie Gleason and Kathie Lee Gifford have in common reveals that each hosted a Holiday Variety Show, a format that was a longstanding broadcast staple of holiday seasons gone by but which has now become just a fond memory, Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, however, will -- for one night -- bring back the good-natured, often-times corny charm of those shows when it presents 'A Very Special (Holiday) Special' on December 7, beginning at 8 p.m.
The Oakes Center stage will be home to an affectionate send-up of traditional holiday entertainment, with Dreamcatcher's resident acting company entertaining with holiday songs, comic sketches and improv, and lots of old-fashioned fun. Each year’s show is original; past years’ performances included an ode to binge shopping, a spoof of Hallmark Channel movies and a holiday cooking show gone bad.
This year’s show will include musical parodies, topical sketches, and unique silliness. Performing in the show are Dreamcatcher Company members Laura Ekstrand, Noreen Farley, Dave Maulbeck, Scott McGowan, special guests Jeff Ertz , Joanna Maulbeck and Emily Williams.
Tickets, priced at $20 and $15 for students 25 and younger, can be purchased in advance by visiting dreamcatcherrep.org, or by calling Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006.
The Oakes Center is located at 120 Morris Avenue.
