NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in New Providence recently welcomed the community to a barbecue celebrating 'National Senior Citizens Day', held annually on August 21 since 1988 when President Ronald Reagan designated the day as a way to increase public recognition of seniors’ wisdom, accomplishments and contributions.
Guests enjoyed a full barbecue buffet by Jason, Spring Grove's Director of Culinary Services, that included grilled chicken, steak, fresh salads and much more. Even the Good Humor truck was on site handing out favorites like the Chipwich, Strawberry Shortcake, and ice cream sundaes, to name a few of the treats.
More than 60 guests enjoyed their barbecue under a tent which protected them from the passing shower and the steamy heat that followed. HomeWell Senior Care coordinated the pianist performing iconic hits like Helen Reddy's "Delta Dawn" and Dean Martin's "That's Amore."
Erin Studt, Spring Grove's Clinical Liaison, Hospital and Community Liaison, thanked everyone for coming out in celebration of National Senior Citizens Day. She told the guests that Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare was renamed when Marquis Health Services acquired the 106 bed facility last September from ManorCare Health Services. They soon after launched a $4 million project to upgrade the facility.
"We are in the trenches of a $4 million renovation -- we are making phenomenal progress," said Studt. The short term care units are in the finishing stages -- "we are upgrading the long-term care rooms, as well," she said.
The renovations and improvements at Spring Grove include the addition of a new rehab gym with state-of-the-art equipment, and a complete overhaul and update of patient rooms, common areas and hallways to create a modern, home-like environment for their patients and staff.
Studt, who joined Marquis Health Services in 2015, is proud of the facility's progress. "As the reputation grows and our renovation continues -- our occupancy is phenomenal," said Studt. "I love the organization and seeing the growth. -- Our occupancy is consistently maintaining over 100. We are so proud of that," she said.
She also said that several staff members have stayed on, which is a testament to the Spring Grove's culture. "A lot of patients come back, should they need us, because of our staff -- they make an impact here."
