SUMMIT, NJ - Entering its eighth decade of providing the patriotic pyrotechnic pop that delights Hilltop City residents of all ages, Summit's Fourth of July Celebration -- complete with music, merriment and, of course, fireworks -- is set for July 4 at Memorial Field in Summit.
While many are drawn by fireworks display, which will begin at 9:15 p.m., the privately-funded event is actually a day-long celebration that begins with the traditional Flag Raising Ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and also includes entertainment, rides and amusements, as well as an expanded food truck festival.
The 'Tour de Memorial', better known as the children’s decorated bicycle parade, follows the Flag Raising Ceremony at at 10 a.m. and the fun continues until 1 p.m., when the Field closes to set-up the evening's extravaganza.
Starting at 6 p.m., the countdown to lift-off begins and so does the music, with Jam with Jamie performing an interactive music concert at 6:30 p,m. followed by Daddy Pop in Concert at 7:30 p.m.
The honor of pushing the fireworks 'plunger' this year goes to representatives of the Summit business community that assisted victims of the New Year's Eve fire that ravaged the apartment complex at 125 Summit Avenue.
