SUMMIT, NJ - Please stay home. And donate.
Those are the messages from the Overlook Auxiliary, which will once again 'host' its 'Phantom Ball', an event that offers a twist on the traditional fundraising gala. On December 7, the Auxiliary will offer a non-event, meaning there is no actual event, which also means no outfit to buy, no transportation or tickets to pay for and no need for a babysitter or paid child care.
Instead, the Auxiliary is telling everyone to take the day and evening and spend quality time with their friends, family and loved ones, then take the money they would have spent on attending an actual event and donate it to the Auxiliary.
The proceeds will benefit The Breast Center of Overlook Medical Center to help defray the cost of novel technologies to improve care of patients with breast cancer. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and the Auxiliary wants patients at Overlook o receive the best possible care close to home.
Support through the Overlook Auxiliary will help ensure that patients treated at the Breast Center at Overlook Medical Center to have access to medical advances placing Overlook’s Breast Center on the leading edge of technology in the region -- such as being able to provide women with breast cancer the opportunity to have both her surgery and one dose of radiation in the operating room within one outpatient visit instead of facing six weeks of up to 30 radiation treatments, and equipping breast surgeons with a wireless localization tool that helps them find the cancer more quickly and accurately while informing the optimal approach for breast reconstruction.
