SUMMIT, NJ - Rebounding nicely from a season-opening, last-minute loss to Delbarton, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team blasted out of the blocks, dominated the first half, and then eased to a 9-1 victory over Rumson-Fair Haven at Investors Bank Field.

Evan Kulpan scored a Hat Trick, and Chris Zanelli and Corey McManus had two goals each for the Hilltoppers, who handily won the face-off and ground ball battle on the day.
Summit jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on scores from Kulpan, McManus, and Zanelli within the opening six minutes. Jay Winchell was forced to make one save for Summit, who owned possession and moved the ball crisply when they had it.

The Hilltoppers doubled their advantage in the second quarter, as Drew Mulholland, McManus off a nice feed from John Cordrey, and Andrew Chase each scored. Up 6-0 at the break -- and with the game firmly in hand -- one felt the third quarter may lack the intensity of the opening two periods, unless Rumson-Fair Haven would make an unlikely run.

The push back from the Bulldogs never materialized, and Summit played a fairly ragged quarter, making more mistakes in the third than in the first two frames combined. Still, after teams traded goals -- the Hilltopper score the second of the game from Zanelli -- the quarter ended with Summit leading 7-1.

The final quarter saw Kulpan score a brace of goals, the final, Hat Trick goal the last tally of the contest.

"We're happy with the win," said Summit Head Coach Jim Davidson.  "We played hard, and had good ball movement in the first half. The third quarter was sloppy, and we have to finish better around the goal."

Next Game: March 31 - @ Chatham, 4:30 p.m.

Next Home Game: April 2 - West Essex, 4:30 p.m.
