SUMMIT, NJ – SAGE Eldercare's Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center provides seniors with structured social, physical and cognitive activities, meals planned by a registered dietician, and support for participants and families from a geriatric social worker.
Spend-A-Day is licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services as an adult day medical program and is staffed with a full-time nurse to medically supervise the participants. Additional support is provided by physical, occupational and speech therapists.
Since 1975, SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center has been providing much-needed respite for family and caregivers and a “home away from home” for the participants in a safe and secure environment.
As part of an annual service day program at Mount St. Mary Academy in Watchung, sophomore students visited SAGE Eldercare this week to spend time doing arts and crafts with older adult clients from SAGE’s Spend-A-Day program. This was the tenth year volunteers have visited SAGE.
The students who visited SAGE worked with Spend-A-Day clients to make colorful spring bouquets. The morning was filled with creativity and a lot of laughter. “Spend-A-Day clients enjoyed not only the craft and resulting sense of accomplishment, but also the time spent with such kind and friendly students,” said Susan Wirth, SAGE’s Manager of Recreation.
