Summit Area Indivisible (SAI), a Summit NJ grassroots organization, is honored to host an event as part of the Presidential Inaugural Committee National Day of Service honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

SAI is hosting a fundraiser to support the Newark Community Street Team (NCST), a nonprofit founded by Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s as Newark's community-based violence reduction strategy. NCST knows that violence is a public health issue. As a result, NCST draws upon an evidence-based, trauma informed approach to violence reduction. It hires, trains and deploys Outreach workers and High Risk Interventionists in the South Ward and West Wards of Newark to: provide casework to those at greatest risk of becoming a victim or a perpetrator of violence; engages in high-risk intervention, both mediating ongoing disputes that may result in violence and preventing retaliation; offers 'Safe Passage' at contracted schools; and provides support to crime survivors who are overlooked by traditional victim services agencies.

NCST specializes in resolving relationship-based disputes toward a peaceful outcome. NCST coordinates its efforts with the police department, other city agencies, service providers, policy organizations, and more in order to improve the quality of life of citizens in the City of Newark.
