SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Area YMCA's LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program -- a free, 12-week small group recovery program for adult cancer survivors -- will be the beneficiary as runners gather for the annual Mother's Day 5K Run/Walk, which is set for May 14, starting at 9 a.m., at Berkeley Heights' Memorial Field.
Online race registration is open through May 7. Race fees $30 in advance, $35 on race day..
The run will also celebrate the life of Summit resident Dawne Hausman, beloved wife and mother, active community member, volunteer, and children’s health advocate, who passed away in 2016 at age 51. The event will see the onset of the Dawne Hausman Award, presented in the Female Ages 6 through 9 category and which honors Hausman’s commitment to empowering young girls and encouraging healthy living.
In addition to on-site snacks, beverages and entertainment available on race day, a Tot Trot -- a free dash for children ages 5 and under -- will be held and the younger set can also check out the Kids Zone, which will be full of fun activities like bounce houses, face painting, and balloon animals.
The Summit Area YMCA is also offering race participants and supporters a chance to win an Amazon Echo Dot by filming a video explaining 'Why You Run / Walk'. To submit a video:
