For the past three days, we’ve had major disruption to NJTransit rail service and NJTransit's response to this situation has been wholly inadequate. Reliable information is non-existent and the transit hubs in Summit, Secaucus, and Hoboken are completely overwhelmed by the circumstances.
This state of affairs is unacceptable, and it is severely impacting Summit’s many commuters. As you know, the Midtown Direct train line is one of the key pillars to our City’s appeal and without efficient service all of our property values will suffer.
As the Mayor and Summit Common Council did with the Morris Avenue Bridge, we ask Summit Common Council to let NJTransit officials and the State Administration know that we expect better, including better communication with riders and using fares to actually improve the system.
