SUMMIT - The weather outside was frightful (rainy) but inside the spirit was delightful as Summit Democrats gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the holidays and donate dozens of toys for area children in foster care through the NJ Department of Children and Families.

Susan Hairston, chair of the Summit Municipal Democratic Committee, said that adding a toy drive to the party's annual holiday gathering represents both the spirit of the season and the commitment to representing and serving the entire community - especially those in need.

"One of the major take-aways for me from the recent elections was the level of recognition that community is about working together and helping one another," she said. "That message was so clear from the voters, that I feel like by asking everyone who came to our party to bring a toy for a child in need, we were simply following through on what the people of Summit said they want to see."
