SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 21 Rotary Drive July 2 at approximately 11:12 p.m. Upon their arrival, the first responders found fire on the exterior left side of the structure extending up along the outside of the house into the first floor and attic.
Firefighters knocked the fire down on the structure's exterior and gained access to the house. Once inside the interior of the house, the fire department found fire in the basement, first floor and heavy fire in the attic. Additional hose lines were stretched to the interior to combat these conditions.
A Signal 11 was requested for station and Mutual Aid coverage. Due to the hot and humid weather, additional Mutual Aid companies were requested to assist with fire and rotation of personnel.
The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad set up rehab and Summit Police Department assisted with traffic control.
There were no civilian injuries and one out of town firefighter had a weather related injury but required no medical care.
The residence's homeowners were away on vacation at the time of the fire and relatives assisted the Fire Department with contacting them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
