Dec. 1, 2016 0233 - Units responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries and an overturned vehicle with possible extrication. Incident located at mm 10 Route 24, West.  Springfield and Millburn FD also on scene.  Summit provided a safety block, and for scene safety and assisted with securing vehicles.  

Dec. 5, 2016 at 12:25 - Units dispatched to a PARK AVE apartment for a possible oven fire. On arrival occupant reported using the self- cleaning feature of oven.  FD found a smoke condition inside the apartment. Ventilation was started using electric fans.  FD checked the oven and surrounding cabinets  using the thermal imaging camera. No fire extension was found.   Oven secured by FD and occupant advised to have oven serviced.

Dec 5, 2016 at 16:53 - FD dispatched to an OAK RIDGE AVE residence for an odor of smoke in the area of the basement clothes dryer.  The occupant had reported smelling an odor of smoke near the dryer after starting it. The odor was traced to accumulation of lint inside the dryer and the dryer vent to the outside.    The dryer was placed out of service.  The occupant was advised to have a service professional clean the dryer vents and service the dryer prior to future use.

Dec. 7, 2016 - FD dispatched for an alarm investigation at a Miele Place residence. FD personnel assisted the homeowner changing two smoke detector batteries.

Dec. 8, 2016 at 12:45  - FD dispatched to HOBART AVE & DE BARY PL for a report of a car that hit a utility pole.  On arrival found a single car had hit a utility pole. Summit FAS arrived and assumed patient care.  .  FD secured the vehicle and notified JCP&L of the damage to the pole.

Dec. 8, 2016   - FD dispatched for a report of smoke and odor of burning in the basement of a Portland Road residence.  Upon arrival a haze was observed in the basement.  Thermal Camera found an overheated fan motor as the cause of the smoke.  The furnace and electrical circuits and appliances were checked, with nothing wrong found.  The fan was removed from the structure, and the wiring to the unit and timer switch were secured.  

Dec. 12, 2016 at 15:37 -  FD dispatched  to a STACIE CT residence  for a report of an extinguished oven fire. On arrival investigation found an extinguished fire in the oven.  Further investigation found that the ovens bottom electric coil had failed.  FD secured oven and advised homeowner  to have the oven repaired or replaced.

Dec. 15, 2016 12:18 - FD responded for a reported odor of burning in the structure.  An odor was detected in the lobby area of the structure.  An extensive search of the entire premises found no obvious cause for the odor.  An overhead fluorescent light fixture had several ballasts that were very hot, and found to be the cause of the odor. Fixture secured and building owner advised to have electrician check the wiring and fixture.

Dec. 16, 2016 03:23 -  FD responded to Route 78 West  for a  two car motor vehicle accident with rollover.  Summit FD personnel operated at mm 44.6 with a Nissan that had one person trapped in the vehicle.  Berkeley Heights FD handled the second vehicle involved.   Summit FD had one patient entrapped in the vehicle. Berkeley Heights FD stretched a hand line to protect personnel performing  the extrication. Summit FD personnel extricated the driver of the vehicle. Patient care was handled by Summit EMS and Atlantic Health Paramedics. FD personnel remained on scene until the vehicle was removed.

Dec. 16, 2016 at 07:58  - FD dispatched  to a High ST residence for a report of a boiler problem.  On arrival found that the hot water boiler had run out of water and overheated.  FD shut down the gas and electric to the boiler.

Dec. 18, 2016 at 02:23:55  - FD dispatched to a ROBIN HOOD RD residence for a water condition in the basement.  On arrival found that an outside sprinkler valve had burst due to the cold temperatures and flooded the basement.  Water supply to the sprinkler system was shut down by FD.

Dec. 19, 2016 at 0819 - FD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole on Mountain Avenue. On arrival found a single vehicle accident car vs. a pole. The pole was cracked several feet up and the base had been moved.  Summit EMS handled patient care.  FD secured vehicle and remained on scene until the vehicle was removed.

Dec. 20, 2016 at 18:39 - FD dispatched with an automatic aid engine from Millburn to a LORRAINE PL residence for a report of heavy smoke in the basement.  On arrival Summit Lt 1. reported  a smoke condition in the basement and on first floor. Hose line was advanced to the basement entrance, initial investigation could not trace the source of the smoke condition.  Further investigation found the source of the smoke condition to be a fire within the rear right corner exterior wall.  A signal 11 and a second alarm was requested and transmitted.  Millburn FD engine 5-2 assigned to check first floor for fire extension. Both the interior and exterior walls in the corner of the basement were removed. Fire was extinguished using hose line. Mutual Aid companies were assigned to vent and overhaul.  Searches of structure were done with negative results.  FD units remained on scene until 2106 hrs.

Dec. 21, 2016 - FD dispatched at 13:26 hrs. to a SPRINGFIELD AVE  residence reported cooking fire. On arrival FD found a moderate smoke condition in the structure from cooking.  The occupant reported a fire inside the microwave while cooking food.   The microwave was removed by fire personnel.  Ventilation of the occupancy was conducted.   

Dec. 23, 2016 - FD dispatched to Route 78 East mm 47.5 for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. On arrival found a one vehicle accident.   FD personnel provided a block of the shoulder and right lane.  Summit EMS handled patient care. Summit FD units remained on scene unit patients transported.

Dec. 24, 2016 at 17:50:51 FD dispatched to a DENMAN PL residence for a report of a vehicle into a building with an unresponsive driver.  On arrival FD found a car had hit the residence and damaged left front corner of house. FD stabilized the vehicle and removed driver side door so EMS personnel could tend to driver.  FD assisted EMS personnel.  Summit PD on scene doing accident investigation.  The building suffered extensive structural damage at point of impact. The building utilities were secured. Occupants were able to stay with family as house was uninhabitable.   Building secured prior to leaving scene.  Building inspector notified for follow up.

Dec. 26, 2016 at 12:35 hrs FD dispatched to  a BEECHWOOD business on  a citizen complaint. Citizen saw a candle lit inside the business that was closed. Personnel contacted the building owner to respond with a key. The candle was extinguished, response card was left.

Dec 28, 2016 at 14:25 hrs. FD dispatched a BEAUVOIR AVE residence  for a report of an extinguished microwave fire.  On arrival FD found  burnt food in a microwave. Occupants had extinguished fire prior to arrival of FD.  No damage to the appliance was noted.  

Dec. 28, 2016 at 20:50 hrs. FD dispatched to a SPRINGFIELD AVE residence for a report of a smoke condition in the residence.  On arrival found that the smoke condition was due to cooking.  FD used positive pressure to vent the residence.  

Dec. 31, 2016 at 03:29 hrs. FD dispatched to a backup medical call at a Russell place residence.  FD assisted Summit First Aid squad with patient care.
