SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Fire Department, assisted by units from the Springfield and Millburn Fire Departments, responded to a residential fire at 302 Springfield Avenue at 6:12 p.m. on May 18. The fire was declared under control at 6:36 p.m.
 
The blaze apparently ignited on a mattress in -- and was contained to -- a first floor bedroom. Residents occupying the structure escaped unharmed, and no injuries were reported.
 
“Our firefighters made a quick stop by effectively knocking down the fire and containing it to the first floor bedroom,” said Summit Battalion Chief Paul Imbimbo. “There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.”
 
 
The Summit Fire Department Headquarters was covered by City of Union Fire Department during the incident.
 
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Summit Fire Department Investigation Unit with the Union County Investigation Unit.
