SUMMIT, NJ - An employee at the Raceway gas station located at 36 River Road suffered burns from a 'flash fire' that originated in underground storage tanks on April 11.
The Summit Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at the location at 3:05 p.m. and, upon arrival, found the employee who was subsequently transported to The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad. His condition is not known at this time.
The fire, which was presented as 90 percent contained upon the SFD's arrival. resulted in firefighters stretching hose lines and using foam to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The scene was declared under control at 3:40 p.m.. The Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Millburn Fire Department. The Summit Police Department also responded to the call.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Summit Fire Department Investigations Unit and Union County Arson Investigation Unit.
