SUMMIT, NJ -  Avenging their only loss of the season, the Summit High School Girls JV Lacrosse Team staged a furious second half comeback to defeat Oak Knoll 7-5 and claim the Union County Championship.

Summit was down 5-2 at the half, but nine saves from Amy Martino -- who anchored a Hilltopper defensive unit that held the Royals scoreless in the second half -- and five unanswered goals meant the trophy was coming home to the Maroon and White portion of the 07901.

Sophie Zachara and Bridget Moriarty each had a pair of goals in the victory.

Summit's Jane DiSibio and Kailey McGinn.had tallies in the opening half, but the Hilltoppers were challenged to posses the ball and Oak Knoll was playing robust defense.

Trailing by three, the dynamic of ball ownership flipped in the second half, as Kaleigh Driscoll and Zachara did the heavy lifting on the draw. Zachara, Moriarty, Zachara again, Molly Driscoll and Moriarty again all found the back of the net.

Martino held the fort, and Summit coaches Mary Kate Renehan and Taylor Albright along with their girls were able to see things out and celebrate at the final horn.

Summit concluded its season with a 12-1 record.
