Summit H.S. Baseball Comes From Behind, Beats Barringer 5-4 in 'States Opener

NEWARK, NJ - The 11th-seeded Summit High School Varsity Baseball Team rallied from two runs down by scoring three runs in the fifth inning, and junior hurler Alex Boburka went the distance as the Maroon and White defeated number-six seed Barringer, 5-4, to open play in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 Tournament,

Junior Trevor Mutolo's plated both the tying- and eventual winning-runs with his fifth-inning single, while juniors Dan Isralowitz and Emory Carlson, along with sophomore Will Hellings, each had a pair of hits on the afternoon.

Boburka's 77-pitch, complete-game performance included allowing just six hits, striking-out two and walking none, with all four runs being unearned. On the season, Boburka has -- in 45 2/3 innings work -- allowed just 12 earned runs, walked just nine batters, and has a sparkling ERA of 2.36.

The Hilltoppers, 12-10-1 on the season, now advance to face third-seeded Somerville May 24. First-pitch at the Nap Torpey Complex in Bridgewater is set for 4 p.m. The Nap Torpey Complex is located at 202 Nimitz Street.
