SUMMIT, NJ - In a defensive performance that would make the '85 Chicago Bears, '76 Pittsburgh Steelers, or the '75 Los Angeles Rams proud, the Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team held Plainfield to just three first-half points -- none in the second quarter -- en route to 45-22 victory.
During the opening 16 minutes, the Hilltoppers built a 33-3 lead, and the second half essentially became extended practice time and an opportunity for Head Coach Tom Kenny to supply some minutes to the majority of his roster.
Senior captain Cassidy O'Malley nearly outscored the Cardinals on her own, notching 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for another double-double, and Julia Harkins added eight points, Grace Keegan grabbed nine rebounds, while Catherine Maloney dished out four assists to categorically lead the Hilltoppers.
In addition to the points differential, Summit out-rebounded Plainfield 38-15, and had 12 team assists to the Cardinals one.
Next up for the Hilltoppers, now 6-2 on the season, is a January 14 trip to Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Tip off is set or 7 p.m.
