Summit H.S. Girls Swim Team Defeated by SP-F in NJSIAA Semis, 100-70

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Winning six of the first seven events of the meet, Scotch Plains-Fanwood swam past the Summit High School Girls Swim Team 100-70 at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood YMCA, the loss eliminating the Hilltoppers from the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Public B State Tournament.

The Hilltoppers finished their dual-meet season with a record of 9-3, with two defeats coming against the Raiders, the state's third-ranked team, and the other versus Westfield, the top-ranked squad.

Julia Bligh winning the 200 Freestyle and finishing second in the 100 Backstroke

Emma Claus winning the 100 Breaststroke and coming in second in the 200 Individual Medley.

Kaitlyn Hersch winning the 100 Backstroke and taking second in the 100 Butterfly.

The team of Sarina Cusumano, Isabel  Claus and Emma Claus and Daniella Ospina winning the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The team of Bligh, Emma Claus, Hersch and Natalie Wisniewski finishing second in the 200 Medley Relay.

Wisniewski swimming the 50 Freestyle, Isabel Claus -- in the 100 free -- and Jen Collins in the 100 Breaststroke, each finishing in third place, respectively, in their races.

The "Senior 400 Free Relay" of Collins, Charlotte Greer, Emily Kostolansky and Hersch swam one more time all together to finish third.

After the meet, Summit Head Coach John Ross told TAPinto Scotch Plains/Fanwood, ""Scotch Plains-Fanwood is one of the best girls teams in the state. I'm proud of our seniors, Kaitlyn Hersch and Emily Kostolansky, who helped us stay close and make it a great meet."

The relay team of Bligh, Emma Claus, Wisniewski and Hersch will next head to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in March to face off against the best in the state in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay. Hersch will also swim the 100 Butterfly at the prestigious meet.
