Summit H.S. Girls Track and Field Impresses at County Relays; Two School Records Fall as Team Takes Second Place

WESTFIELD, NJ - The season of success continued for the the Summit High School Girls Track and Field team, as they staged a strong all-around performance at the recently-concluded Union County Relays held in Westfield.
 
The Hilltopper Girls Team finished in second place behind Union Catholic with 54 total points, scoring in nearly every event entered.
 
The 4x400 relay team -- Emma Osborne, Freshman Sophie Piron, Junior Gisselle Giron, and Junior Claudia Piron --vcaptured the Union County title, winning a tight race with Union High School and finishing in a new school record, overall time of 3:58.60.
 
 
The mark bests the previous record set at the 2015 New Balance National Championship meet, and marked the second time in school history that the relay team dipped under the 4-minute mark.
 
A second school record fell in the pole vault relay, where Junior Alysia Lopez and Senior Karen Arias teamed to take second overall and set the new school mark at 16' 6".  The previous record was 15'.
