BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The sixth-seeded Summit High School Girls Softball Team, trailing number-two seed Governor Livingston 4-1, scored a pair of runs in the fifth and pushed across one more run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, but fell to the Highlanders in the ninth frame, 5-4.

The loss eliminates the Hilltoppers from the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 tournament at the semifinal stage.

Freshman Kasey Walsh went 2-4 with two RBI and classmate Ava Calabrese had a pair of hits and drove in a run to pace Summit, which finished its strong season with a record of 18-8. Sophomore Gianna Acitelli and freshman Megan Tarashuk also had two hits on the day with Tarashuk scoring a pair of runs.

Senior Kendall Blomfield went the distance for Summit, scattering 12 hits, allowing three earned runs while striking out three and walking one batter.

The Highlanders' Sofia Mouchtaris' RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning plated Aislinn O'Keefe with the winning run.
