PERTH AMBOY, NJ - Two teams, each ranked in the state's top 10, going up against each other with hardware on the line. Swim pundits predicted a virtual toss up.

The swim pundits weren't wrong.

In a meet that came down to the final relay, Chatham was able to hold off the Summit H.S. Girls Swim Team 91-79 to claim the Public B North 2 Sectional Final at the Raritan Bay YMCA . Summit ends its season with a record of 10-2.

In the final relay -- the 400 Free -- the Hilltoppers needed both a first- and third-place finish to tie the meet at 85 and send it to a PowerPoints tiebreaker, but fell short despite breaking a school record by almost three seconds. To underscore the razor-thin space separating the teams, just minutes before the final race, Summit was edged in the 200 Free Relay by 0.01, an 8-point swing which put them 10 points behind rather than getting them to within two heading into the final three events.
